A Unique Working Environment
At Cornerstone Engineering, we blend a traditional office atmosphere with modern, interactive work spaces. This work environment accommodates both our highly technical, work-product driven service set with more collaborative exchanges that punctuate our advisory service set. The result is an atmosphere in which both work styles thrive and our generous office layout achieves both.
Open Communication
Communication lies at the heart of our work culture and having our core workforce report to our principal office in Bakersfield, CA, is conducive to collaboration. In addition to team sessions and project meetings, Cornerstone hosts quarterly townhalls to keep all in-the-know on current happenings. We also convene monthly in-person safety meetings to reinforce care and concern for one another’s well being.
Regular brainstorming sessions, team meetings, and workshops are common occurrences at Cornerstone Engineering. Sometimes the topic is technical in nature, or an opportunity to share best practices with one another. Sometimes the topic focuses on softer skills of communication and respect. Regardless of the topic, we approach communication in a manner that brings out the unique character traits and natural gifts that make us unique.
Driving Innovation
Many talk about innovation. Cornerstone lives it out. We start our innovative journey by working hard to identify and hire talent who have A Passion for Excellence, an Eye for Detail, and a Will to Succeed. We understand that the challenges faced by our clients are continually evolving and to address them we must utilize the best proven technology and utilize the best engineering practices and tools. Examples of this are our expertise in state and federal underground injection control and applying digital solutions to high volume, unstructured document analysis. Our staff is encouraged to push boundaries, explore new ideas, and challenge conventional wisdom. We provide the necessary resources and support to enable them to embark on innovative projects and pursue creative solutions.
To nurture a culture of innovation, we also organize workshops and training sessions that focus on creativity, problem-solving, and the latest industry trends. For example, Cornerstone hosts quarterly meetings with PUC power providers to participate in more timely extension of service. We host best practices sessions on topics such as drainage analyses and preparation for professional licensure and invite our clients to attend. These initiatives equip our team members with the tools and techniques needed to approach complex challenges with fresh perspectives. Furthermore, we promote continuous learning and encourage our staff to stay updated with emerging technologies and best practices in their respective fields.
Empowering our Employees
We are one another’s most valuable assets. So, we take the opportunity to pass along input from our clients, to feature one another’s positive character traits, and to invite team members to lead best practices sessions to share lessons learned with others. You will regularly see Cornerstone team members as panelists or speakers at industry conferences. Also, Cornerstone team members are shaping technical career curriculum for a local high school and presiding over the Central California chapter of professional geologists.
Work-Life Balance
“Work-life balance” is an often-used term that means different things to different people. At Cornerstone, we view this as recognizing that when you find yourself in a career that aligns with your natural talents, your days run more smoothly and you have more to offer to your family, to your teammates, and to your community. Unbalance materializes when the demands of your job are misaligned with natural gifting. This is why at Cornerstone, we truly strive to position ourselves in the right position. Our multi-disciplinary model provides a variety of work groups, each of which calls on a different talent set. For example, methodic and patient people thrive in designer roles, versatile people with visualization skills make good surveyors, while outgoing and creative are the engine of our client relationships.
